How it Works

Pay Per Click Keyword Bidding

Pay Per Click search engines are one of the most effective advertising models to date. Here is a brief overview of how this system works.

  • Open an account ( click on List Your Site )
  • Log in to your account.
  • Choose keywords for your business that people would search for to find your website.
  • Place bids on those keywords from your control panel. The higher your bid, the higher your search ranking for that keyword.
  • If you are out-bid you will have the opportunity to increase your bid to regain your ranking position for that keyword.
  • To add money to your account simply log-in and use your credit or debit card to fund your account.

    Step by Step Beginner's Guide

Below is a beginners guide we have put together to tell you step-by-step how to create an account with 1Second.com and begin receiving traffic.

    Step 1: Create an Account

If you have not done so yet, you should create an account. This is easy and will take only a few minutes. To create an account, click on "List Your Site" . You will be asked a few questions and then your confirmation email with your password will be sent to you via email within a few minutes. SAVE (or print) this email for future reference to be able to login to your account at any time.

Step 2: Login to your Account

Now that you have created an account, you should log in. Click on "Account Login". Enter your User Name and password that you were sent. Remember that the password is case-sensitive meaning that lowercase and uppercase are different. If you have forgotten your password you can click on "Forgot your password?" to have it sent to you.

Step 3: Think about your business!

What type of business do you have? What category does it fall under? Who is your target customer? These are all questions you should be asking yourself when setting up a PPC account.

Let's make believe you own a Computer shop called John's Computer Shop. Your target customer is someone who want's to buy computers, computer parts or software... the first thing you need to do is figure out what "keyword" or "keyword phrases" someone is likely to search on when they are interested in your product. Keyword phrases can be anything related to your product, from a particular "computer" to an actual brand of products.

What are keywords or keyword phrases that someone might type into a search engine if they were looking for a computer, computer parts, discount software, or particular brand, like used Dell computers, (if you sell used DELL)...?

Take a look at this list:

  • computer
  • computers
  • laptop
  • laptops
  • printer
  • printers
  • computer printers
  • affordable computers
  • discount computers
  • Dell
  • Dell computers
  • used dell computers
  • computer accessories
  • etc.....
  • These are all keywords or keyword phrases that someone might type into a search engine if they were looking for a computers or computer accessories. These are all perfect keyword phrases that you would want to add our site under.

You should take a few minutes to write down a list of keyword phrases related to your business. If you need help, when you log into your account at 1Second.com you can use a special option called "Search Bids". This will show you what are the highest bids for the chosen keyword at the moment.

DO NOT set up for one long keyword phrase like: "computer affordable computers computers laptop laptops printer printers" It's better to bid for each keyword like computers or affordable computers SEPARATELY as it's not very likely that someone will search for such a long phrase: computer affordable computers computers laptop laptops printer printers. Search and click odds are much higher with simple and short keywords or keyword phrases.

Also note that if you add a keyword phrase "computer printers" and someone searches for "computer" or "printers" your listings will not show up. You should SEPARATELY add "computer printers" than "computer" than "printers" and set a bid amount for each keyword. In your Account area simply click on Add Listing and type in each keyword or phrase separately. Click on Add Listing after each keyword than click Save. If you do this the search will show your listings in all 3 search results.

On 1second, singular and plural searches are considered separate, so if you were adding your site under "computer" you should also add it under "computers".

    Step 4: Add Listings

After you are logged in click on "Manage Listings" than "Add Listing".

    Add your site information.

The first box is "Keywords". Enter a single keyword or short phrase like: computer printers

Next box is called "Bid ($)". This is how much you are willing to pay to be listed under the keyword. The more you pay, the higher in the search results your listing will appear and typically, the more traffic you will receive. Click on Search Bids to determinate how much are the particular keywords worth at the time you bid for them. You will be able to change bid amounts at any time later.

The next box is for the "Title". The Title is a short 60 character label for your search engine listing. In our earlier example for John's Computer Shop, a title may be "John's Computer Shop - Top Brand Computers!". The title usually includes your websites name and maybe a short slogan or generic description of what you offer. It shouldn't exceed 60 characters (a character is any letter, number, symbol or space.)

Next you need to enter your "Site URL". For example, our URL is http://www.1second.com. Make sure to enter the FULL url, including the "http://" before the website address.

Now you need to enter a longer "Description" of your site. The description can be up to 180 characters long and should give the visitor a simple idea of what your site has to offer. With our example, a description may be: "We have been providing the top name brand computers and parts to our customers for over 5 years. Items can be shipped within 3 days anywhere in the country!". This is where you should sell yourself to the customer and make them want to visit your site. An important thing to remember is don't lie! Don't say anything that is not true and don't tell them you sell anything you don't sell. While writing a false description may get you more traffic, it will not be "qualified traffic" and the visitor will leave immediately.

When you are done filling in the boxes on this page, press the button labeled "Ad Listing" and it's done.

You can enter next keyword now. The rest of information is already there. Add next keyword and click save. This way you can add as many keywords as you wish.

If you wish to add a large number of keywords or listings at once you can use our Excel Spreadsheet upload option also found on "Manage Listings" page.

    Step 5: Fund Your Account

1second.com works on a debit account system meaning you must pre-fund your account to receive traffic. When your funds run out, we stop the advertising until you fund your account again. This works out well for many advertisers because they can set a spending limit -- you will never receive a bill from 1second.com.

To fund your account, click on "Payment". We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit cards, as well as Bank Debit cards. 2CO is the authorized retailer for Now Intermedia Inc. PayPal payments are also accepted. All transactions are 100% secure (SSL). The minimum deposit is $10.

BONUS OFFER: For a limited time we will DOUBLE your deposit. We'll double any amount you initially deposit. For example if you deposit $10, we'll add additional $10 and there will be $20 Bidding Cash available in your account. Deposit $100 and we'll add $100 and you will have $200 Bidding Cash etc.. Hurry - This bonus offer may expire at any time. Bonus will be added within 24 hours after your initial deposit.

Make sure to check our current special offers. Those deals often present a remarkable value - up to $100 free.

As soon as your payment is posted to your account, your advertising campaign will be automatically live and your site should begin to receive traffic for the keywords you have chosen.

    Step 6: Adjust your Bids

If you wish to change your bids, you can use the "Manage Listings" option. Click on "Edit Listings" and "GO". This will show you all of your listings and keywords. Check the listing you want to edit. You can adjust your bids so that you gain the position you want. When you are done, make sure to save your changes.

    Step 7: You're all done!

That's it, your account should now be live and you will begin receiving traffic. You should occasionally log in to review your account activity, adjust your bids and make sure your account is funded. How much traffic you receive will depend on many things:

    * How popular the keyword phrases you chose are
    * What position you are listed in under each keyword phrase
    * How interesting your site description is to a searcher.

Don't forget though that the most important part is the price you are paying per visitor, not how many visitors you receive. We suggest you start slowly and test out different site descriptions, keyword choices and bid amounts to see what works best for you.

    Good luck!
